General Election Polling: Ted Stevens vs. Begich (D):
Polling shows that only 44 percent of Alaskans see Ted Stevens positively, down from 55 percent two weeks before. Stevens' negative ratings are up from 38 percent to 48 percent between two polls taken two weeks apart.
In a recent poll, 56 percent of those polled said they'd vote for Begich over Stevens if they were their party's nominees and the general election were held today. Stevens came away with only 35.3 percent. Another recent poll shows Begich leading leading Stevens by a margin of 50 percent to 37 percent.
Primary Election Pollng: Ted Stevens vs. Dave Cuddy:
According to recent poll results, 58.9 percent of those polled said they plan to vote for Stevens in the Republican primary. Cuddy came in second with 19 percent.
While overall support for Ted Stevens has dropped precipitously in recent weeks, Stevens' losses have so far moved primarily to "undecided," rather than benefiting Cuddy or any of the other Republicans running against Stevens. A substantial disparity in name recognition may be contributing heavily to the disparity in support. Polling shows that more than 40 percent of Alaskans are still unfamiliar with Cuddy.
