While Don Young's ratings on right-to-life issues have generally been decent, and his ratings on guns and borders acceptable, Don Young's record on taxes and spending has been ABYSMAL.

In the 2008 primary race, Young's opponent, Sean Parnell, has been endorsed by Alaska Right-to-Life, Club for Growth and National Review.

From the Wikipedia profile on Rep. Don Young (R-AK):
In July 2007, fellow Republican Congressman Scott Garrett of New Jersey proposed an amendment to strike money in a spending bill for native Alaskan and Hawaiian educational programs.[6] Young defended the funds on the floor of the House, stating that "You want my money, my money."[6] Young also stated that "Those who bite me will be bitten back."[6] Young went on to suggest that conservative Republicans such as Garrett lost the Republicans their majority in the 2006 election by challenging spending earmarks, and made several critical remarks about the state of New Jersey.[6] While Garrett did not ask for an official reprimand, other conservative Republicans took exception to Young's remarks that the funds in question represented his money. Members of the Republican Study Committee gave Garrett a standing ovation later in the day during the group's weekly meeting, and Virginia Foxx of North Carolina compared Young's earmarks to "legal theft."[6]

According to The New Republic, Young is "well-known for his sharp elbows and generous appetite for legislative pork."[7] His reputation for steering federal dollars to Alaska is almost as legendary as that of Stevens. For example, in the 2005 Highway Bill, Young helped secure "$941 million for 119 special projects," including a $231 million bridge in Anchorage that a rider in the bill would name for Young himself.[8]
The Club for Growth says:
"Don Young's disrespect for taxpayers is all the more insulting when it produces economically harmful policies," said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. "This is true whether we are talking about Young's insatiable appetite for wasteful pork projects or his desire to impose higher taxes on American taxpayers. In both cases, Young is taking money out of the private sector that would be used to help the economy grow. Taxpayers and the economy would be much better off if Young took a hands-off approach."
